"All Things Bright and Beautiful..." At Archipelago
Featuring these nine specially priced Kigel originals!
On Friday, October 28th, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., the public is invited to an opening reception at Archipelago Fine Arts gallery, 386 Main Street in Rockland, Maine for “All Things Bright and Beautiful, All Creatures Great and Small”, a show of work by Maine artists Sarah Brandon, Kathleen Buchanan, Christina Heiniger and Jean Kigel. The show will run through March 16th, 2012, and will also be featured in the Arts in Rockland Art Walk on Friday, November 5th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Sarah Brandon works in a wide spectrum of art mediums and styles, ranging from collage/mixed media, monoprints to bold watercolors for works on paper and acrylic painting on canvas or panel. Most recently she has added her one-of-kind painterly canvas floor cloths to her ever-growing repertoire. Her artwork, created in her Steuben,Mainestudio, spans from landscape and landscape-related work with minimal architecture elements – featuring the quintessentialMaineice hut or outbuilding – to her wonderfully fun, stylized animal paintings.
Kathleen Buchanan, a fine-arts printer, draws her inspiration from relationships – her connection to the natural world, her role as the mother of two young children, and her own sense of self all find expression in her images. She enjoys looking at landscapes and their inhabitants not only as appealing composition subjects, but also as metaphors for the human experience. Her collagraphs - hand-made prints generated off a printing plate that is a collage of various materials – reflect the ever-changing ocean, sky and seasons around her home in Thomaston.
Working in her Lamoine, Maine studio, Christina Heiniger uses a delightfully unusual blend of influences in her watercolor and acrylic paintings, sculptural puppets and her own line of cards. Her bold, cheerful and uplifting use of color is inspired by European painters such as Henri Matisse and Josef Albers, by the bright and fearless use of color in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, and from her lifelong fascination with all the hues in her paintbox. Christina’s artwork bears her own highly unique and distinctive hand, with circles and dots lightheartedly adorning many of her sculptures and paintings.
Jean Kigel practices Asian brush painting, watercolors, and gyotaku – Japanese fish printing – Jean’s meticulous preparation of her subjects, the care she takes to apply the ink and color to paper, and the simple background and details she adds to each print combine to form a powerful translation of the beauty found in the marine world.
