Music, art, champagne, delicious food and a lovely venue to enjoy — what could be a better way of spending a few hours Saturday, Sept. 13, at the annual Champagne on the Sheepscot event. This year the location is a historic saltwater farm in Newcastle on the Marsh River, a tributary of the Sheepscot. The time is 4:30 to 7 p.m. The event is the Sheepscot Valley Conservation Association's major fundraiser of the year.

The music this year is supplied by the five-member Narrow Gauge String Band, known for its catchy tunes.

This year, for the first time, a group of local artists will be showing paintings and other art for sale, with a portion of the proceeds going to SVCA. Among the artists displaying their work are Deb Arter, Ingrid Bathe, Kelly Brook, Melissa Hunnibell, Jean Kigel, Jennifer Litchfield, Janet Lockhart, Belva Ann Prycel and Jessica Sirois. Local artist Lucy Harrington, who owns the 145-acre property, organized the art exhibit portion of the fundraising event. In addition, SVCA will be selling a limited edition 45th anniversary poster by Jon Luoma.
