Maine Shore Birds by Jean Kigel
Jean Kigel’s third, theme show of the season, is entitled Maine Shore Birds.
This show, hosted by the newly re-opened Archipelago Gallery in Rockland,
offers you the rewarding experience of viewing her work IN PERSON at 386 Main
St. from July 18 through August 16. Hours
are Wednesday through Saturday 10-4.
Kigel is honored to be a part of Archipelago’s 20th
anniversary of offering arts and crafts to the community
For this collection of small paintings, Kigel chose signature style of Asian
brush painting, both on Japanese shikishi boards (rice paper) and on Japanese
yupo paper. Having studied in Japan
and China, and currently living on the Muscongus coast in Waldoboro, Kigel loves
painting the shore birds she observes daily. Amongst
her favorites are the sandpipers, the heron, and the kingfishers.
Using a minimum of brush strokes, she evokes their peeps, frawnks,
chatters, and screams. Each of her birds exhibits a distinct personality .
Like her first two theme shows, Maine Shore Birds is also viewable virtually at
